open desktop files from the command line
I'm running an ltsp system here. I was just looking into ways to use xmessage to send messages to specific desktops, but the best I can do is broadcast it to all desktops, which is not handey for sending messages to people form my office.
This lead me to creating text files on their desktop in hte hopes that they would read them, but I can't prove they will unless I also open them on their desktop.
So is there a way to a) use xmessage to broadcast only to one user's desktop (all users are logged into the same machine) or b) force a text file to open on a user's desktop (say, via gedit or gvim)?
