Fluxbox, DOSBox, and Ubuntu; oh my!

I'm trying to use Fluxbox on my Ubuntu distro (yes, I'm one of those people), and have no idea where the initial files to configure are, nor how to configure them to get a useable interface.

Does anyone have a config file that is already set-up to the point that I can "easily" fiddle with it-- inside FluxBox? I have a lot of unwanted crap (i.e. Gnome, KDE, GDM) that I want to remove, but can't do so until I get Fluxbox running at a minimal level.

Finally, where does DOSBox (usually) look for its inital configuration file? I wrote one and put it in /usr/bin (where the binary resides), but it didn't work... is there a startup parameter I can enter when running it to tell it where to look?

Thanks.

EDIT 12:25: Yes, Fluxbox runs. That does not mean that it works. It has no useability whatsoever-- not even a shell with which to modify its own files. I already looked at the instruction manual.
