PostgreSQL 7.1 RC1 Released.
I don't know how many of you guys are PostgreSQL fans, but I love it. (I don't want to start a big flame war on PostgreSQL vs. MySQL, or anything, because they do both have their advantages.)
Personally, however, I consider PostgreSQL to be a nearly perfect database, with only a few real issues that cause me problems. With the release of 7.1, it will have solved most of the major problems I have with it. It will also have all the ingredients needed to really compete against the likes of Oracle.
Here's a few key points for the new release:

Which reminds me, at some point, I'd love to try "porting" LiveJournal to PostgreSQL. . . even if just for my own personal use. ;-)

- full support for outer joins
- removal of the notorious 8k row length limit
- a boost in overall performance (speed)
