Linux newbie, help requested with Lexmark printer
I've been saying for a long time I was going to install linux on my computer, and a couple of weeks ago, I finally did it. I installed Kubuntu 6.06 because I was told it was easy to install, and pretty. Well, I learned it's easy if you don't expect to do much more than surf the web. I've been trying to set it up to do all the stuff I did in Windows.
I've got a number of problems I'm trying to solve, including the fact that samba just won't work. But right now I'm trying to figure out why I can't install this Lexmark printer. I've downloaded the driver from the Lexmark site, ran all the scripts, configured files, and it came down to this last step:
auryn@Alyson:/usr/lexprint/bin$ sudo ./mkqueue -d Lexmark -q lexmark
-p 10LE238 -l pcl
lpadmin: Unable to copy interface script - Permission denied!
Error: Creating printer queue lexmark failed.
auryn@Alyson:/usr/lexprint/bin$
Permission freakin' denied! And I don't know why. I even tried running it as root and got the same reply. I even chmodded the hell out of any file I think could possibly be involved. I think something is messed up with the userid, since samba always complains of permissions. Also, my screen saver stopped working and I can't figure out why I can't install the driver for my Radeon 9200. I imagine, if I suss out this problem with the printer, I'll be closer to fixing the others.
Anyone have an idea where to start? (I hope.)
