CF-to-IDE adapters
Looking to use a Kingston 4 GB compact flash card I have as the root file system. I've done some research and haven't really found anything as a definitive guide on what to purchase (could be I'm not searching for the right keywords either). I have been looking at this SYBA adapter, but there are two concerns on that adapter. 1) It doesn't seem to support DMA, so it could be a possible slow down in regards to I/O. I've googled other type adapters and a few claim to support DMA, but most are off-branded and I have no idea on the quality. This one from Newegg seems to be a good price for it. 2) No dimensions are given and I'm not completely sure how I would mount it in a 5.25" bay. I do have some 5.25"-to-3.5" bay converters for HDDs so if it would be wide enough I'm sure I could rig something together to support it. I need it in a 5.25" bay because I'm going to have another drive connected to the same channel as a slave drive. Otherwise I'd consider just getting a female-IDE adapter that plugs directly into the IDE channel on the board or one that would fit in a PCI slot. Anyone have any recommendations whether that SYBA adapter is any good (seems to gotten some good reviews) or other suggestions on what to get/not to do?
The CF card will be / on the system I'm building. With /tmp, /var/log, and /var/run being on another HDD as to limit the amount of writes to the drive to prolong its life. I will also have /home mounted on a software RAID-1 volume as well.
