Need some help on installing an linux opertating system to an pretty old computer.

so i've been trying to install DSL on this old computer I have, i first tried smartbootloader and got that to load up, but I got a disk eroor whenever I tried to boot off the cd drive.  so then I went to the dsl homepage and found one of their boot floppies. it worked for a little bit, it booted up and such, but when it looked for my DSL disk which is in the cd drive, it can't find it.

I am looking for an alternative floopy booter, and lightweight system to install to one of my computers.  or to get dsl to work.
