Access box by hostname
Hi again.
This has been driving me nuts for a while and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I can access my Ubuntu (Dapper) box by its IP address, but not by its hostname. I also cannot ping any Windows machines by their hostnames from Ubuntu. I have no idea why this is, and it's especially frustrating because I know everything worked fine before I had to reinstall when I replaced my harddrive.
It's a silly thing, really, but I would like to be able to call my computer by its name and not its number. :-)
Thanks for any suggestions.
Edit: So apparently I *can* ping other machines by their hostnames. I just... well, I don't know why I thought I couldn't. But still, no one can ping me.
