CompTIA cert?

Posting on behalf of a friend, I think this is the best place for the topic. It seems the CompTIA Linux+ class offered by Thompson has virtually nothing to do with the exam, resulting in a wasted test voucher and a lot of frustration. Does anyone have any recommendations for courses, study guides or online resources that are specific to the exam? Or if you've taken the exam, was there something you found to best prepare yourself? I'd appreciate any suggestions as he has to retest (and repay, ouch) and I've got to switch gears entirely before my exam now.

Alternately, if there's a better group for this kind of thing let me know.
