Laser printer recommendations

I recently had a car crash through my office, which destroyed a few things. One of which was my Samsung ML-1510 laser printer. I'm having a difficult time trying to find a suitable replacement in the current market. It seems a lot of manufacturers have moved firmware into the windows driver, making it useless for Linux. BOO!
Can anyone recommend inexpensive, reliable, Postscript compatible printers that will work well under CUPS. And that is likely to still be available for sale? It'd be nice if they play well with GIMP-Print as well.
Right now I'm trying to match what's in the shops with the available CUPS's PPDs. Which is not fruitful so far. Any suggestions would be appreciated, but bear in mind if you bought it more than 12 months ago it's probably not available anymore.
