ftp hacker

One of the web servers I run has been getting thousands of dictionary attacks on the FTP service. Lucky I had complex passwords on the accounts.

I ended up turning off FTP for now. Someone really wanted to get into my server, they where doing it for over a week! I didn't think I had anything so interesting on my server. I sure don't have anything like credit card info or anythnig.
Or is it I just didn't know that someone wanted to hack me so badly?
Or just something that happens now and then? I've never seen an attack last so long.
