My Linux Distro
So, in my endeavor to create a Linux distribution I realized a few things. The first thing that came to my attention is that the Linux community does not need yet another user-friendly, GUI centric distribution. The second is that console applications go largely unnoticed, and the third is that most distributions create a whole bunch of useless things.
In response to this, I have thought of the following:
Create a console centric Linux distribution.
Do not add any package management system (automake and autoconf kind of cover that).
Do not alter any application for the system.
So with that in mind, I am going to make the system with LFS, and utilize the LiveCD scripts from linux-live.org. As for the installer, I plan on using the GoboLinux installer as a base, and modifying it to meet the needs of my LFS system. An Xserver will still be included in the final system, and the window manager I have decided to use is WindowLab. My reasons for using WindowLab are as follows:
It is very small with few dependencies.
It has a taskbar and menu.
The menu is small and fitting considering I do not plan to add many graphic apps.
The wm is intuitive.
What do you think?
- I know this is somewhat a repeat post -
