VPN ... and then what?

I have a university as a client.

Okay now that you've stopped laughing, I've found that I have a HUGE hole in my knowledge that no amount of Googling has filled.

In order to upload and publish to their website system when I'm on their campus I have to FTP to a development server and then I have to go to a web interface that tells the live web server to update the files that have just been FTP put.

But, since my office isn't on campus, their IT dept have created an account so I can establish a VPN tunnel to their intranet. Hooray!

'Okay' I think. VPN yay.. so I've set up vpnc and filled in all the conf file details and started the client and it reports that It's connected and shows me the university's connect banner.

Then I realise that I have absolutely no idea as what to do next. All of the University's documentation is no help. How do I get an ftp client to talk through this VPN tunnel? And then how do I get a web browser to do the same? I've been Googling all morning, but I seem to not have a concept or two straight in my mind in order to ask the right questions.

Can anyone give me a brief outline of what it is I need to do, and point me to any resources that might help?

Apparently I was trying to make it much more complex than it was. All I had to do was run the client and add the tunnel to the DSL devices. Wow OpenSuse is way easier than windows.
