Linux newbie question
Hey everyone. I just joined this group and just started using linux. I used it a few times in a computer lab at my school but that's pretty much it. I downloaded a copy of Fedora Linux 7 and burnt it to a DVD. I am trying to install it on my desktop as a dual boot system alongside Windows XP. I already have XP installed and I ran the Linux installation DVD. I setup the partitions correctly. Then, as it started to do the actual installation, an error message popped up saying "input/ output error during read on /dev/sda". Now, I tried researching this error message and I keep finding postings about scsi hard drive errors. Now, I know my hard drive works because I've been using it for the past 2-3 years and no problems until now. I thought it might be a bad DVD so I burned another copy of the disc and the same error happened again. My hard drive is a 60GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive. Does anyone know what is causing this error?? It seems like a hard drive error because I recognize the sda from the partition screen as being the hard drive. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
