Slax Is Back... Almost

Slax Is Not Dead!

I was worried that Tomas, the guy behind Slax, was going to permanently stop working on the Slax LiveCD distribution. For a while there was a blog instead of the normal download page. But it looks like he has re-designed the web page and that there will be future releases of Slax. To be honest, I liked the Old Slax page better, but I'm not complaining! The important thing is that I don't want Slax to die out. Right now it doesn't look like it's possible to download Slax from the redesigned page. Also, there appears to be only one release (standard Slax) whereas before there were several different versions: standard release, "kill bill" release, server release, frodo release, etc. The modules page isn't up either, so I'm guessing that this page has only been up for a few days. The page doesn't even tell you what version number you're supposed to be downloading--I assume it will be Slax 6.

Still, I'm glad to see that the Slax project appears to be alive. While I was impressed with the Kubuntu distro that I tried out, I still prefer Slax for its small size and modularity. Kubuntu is maxed out on a 700MB CD, but with Slax I can get the basic OS, KDE, and all of the X and KDE applications I use on a LiveCD maxing out at around 480 MB. It's small, fast, efficient, and stable. Best of all, IMHO, is that Slax makes it incredibly easy to build your own custom LiveCDs with the packages that you want.

Are there any other Slax fans here? I hope I'm not the only one!
