The Xen of Linux
First, some background:
I’ve been experimenting with virtualization under Linux for quite some time now. At my place of employment, we use VMware Server on our Linux servers with some other technologies (Parallels, VMware Workstation, VirtualPC, etc) on various desktops for various reasons. At home, I’ve used both KVM and Qemu with pretty good success, but each has their quirks and piss-me-offs (Mainly VM clock drift, and speed issues).
The one I haven’t tried is Xen. I’ve been doing some reading and I think I understand the difference between Dom0 and DomU, and the hypervisor, but that’s about as far as I’ve gotten.
I’m pretty competent with Linux in general, but the intricacies of Xen still confuse me. I’ve got a machine I can experiment on (Measly 1GB of RAM, but shouldn’t do too badly) and I would like to get my feet wet as it were.
The Question:
Does anyone know of a good practical guide to Xen? Perhaps something written for an experienced admin who is looking to consolidate servers without re-learning everything? I’m not looking for too much theory, but guides on what it can do and how to do it.
