Curious about PS3 as a node

I'm just curious about running a (just *one*) PS3 as a node, as I'm probably going to be doing some fairly intensive audio/video editing in the future - and would certainly help if it can handle the load well.

Considering using my on-board GBLAN (since the board I'm thinking of using has two) - one wouldn't think this to be a problem (and less congestion on my home network, at any rate) - but if I need to configure the PS3 or frontend, so be it. But Linux never has trouble finding network ports anyhow (now, how does Linux see onboard LAN if there's more than one, am curious?)

Following this guide: http://www.hexad.eu/opensource/cell/cluster.htm though I have seen another one floating around the internet; but this has caused a few questions to be asked:

I want to run Ubuntu, and even Windows. I do wonder if there's a way to have Ubuntu, or Windows, to be compatible with the PS3 - with that sort of config - without too much complaining on the Linux end? A lot of how-tos tend to be bent off this distro - or having Knoppix on everything "otherwise it won't work" - so that's why I ask. Can I install a node-type client on Windows, or Ubuntu without much hassle?

As for what I'm doing? Graphics (a la 3D rendering) is going to take a hit on processing power, so in that I'd want the PS3 for the extra juice. Audio editing - not so much (everything can be done on the sound card, if it's a good card).

What steps would I have to take to use the PS3 to process extra threads in/from Windows, Linux (Ubuntu) - respectively? (I'm actually planning on using both Windows, and Ubuntu... so I'd rather know both)
