Another laptop post...
Hi all. I'm new to using Linux on a laptop, but not so new to using it on a desktop. At any rate, lemme get to the point.
I just put SuSE8 on my laptop. I had no problems at all with the install, but there're a few things I'm having trouble getting set up, and I'm hoping one of you can help.
First and foremost, wireless LAN. I have a Siemens SpeedStream wireless card, which I'm almost certain uses the prism2 driver. As far as I can tell, PCMCIA is working correctly. It loads without error on boot, cardmgr in the xconsole shows the card in the slot, 'cardctl ident' gives correct info about the card. I downloaded the wlan-ng drivers, and compiled for prism2. The compile goes okay, but when I insmod it, I get a bunch of unresolved symbols, and no driver loaded. I've found a prism2 driver which I believe was installed with SuSE, and I tried using YAST to set the card up with it (I've tried setting the card up as eth1 using prism2_cs module, and as a PCMCIA card. In both cases, I get nothing). Any suggestions? Anywhere I should look for info? Nothing I've found yet as been of much help, and I can't find any instances of the Siemens card being used, but surely someone out there's using it. Even if they're not, it's essentially the same card as the Linksys, which seems to be quite common.
Okay, next problem. Pointing devices. I did the install with a USB mouse connected. This got set up fine. But the touchpad doesn't work. I was able to set the touchpad up with SaX, and was also able to have both pointing devices setup with SaX, but couldn't use both simultaneously. This is nothing serious, but its convenient at times to use the mouse, other times to unplug it & just use the touchpad. Either way, I don't wanna have to run SaX every time I change. Surely there's a way to use them both at the same time, and connect / disconnect the USB mouse at will.
Also, is there anyway to use the scroll button of the mouse / touchpad without the imwheel program?
Finally, the battery monitor. It seems to always read "-49%." Any fix for this? Again, this is not a big problem, just a minor annoyance.
Thanks for your help.
