Broken RedHat Server

It's way too early for me to be at work right now, but I have an ailing server. Actually it's been ailing for a while I've just never been able to figure out what's wrong. The box hosts several services which all seem to stop responding (I.E. the box crashes), everything except for ping stops working. I come in today to check on the box and it's locked up sure enough and on the console was a kernel panic message. I couldn't gleam a lot of data from the message as it's rather cryptic. I reboot the server and everything's fine. How do I go about checking logs, or core dumps on a RedHat box to verify where the problem lies?

/var/log/messages contains nothing unusual and the boot up messages look just fine. I just need to know where to start looking. It has to be a hardware failure of some sort, but I don't know what.
