Linux problem (what else?)

I just recently installed RedHat 8.0 on my laptop. It has a combination CD-RW and DVD drive. I was able to install vlc as a DVD player, and eventually (after updating some packages) it installed. It does play the DVD, but I only get audio and no video. Anybody have any idea why I'm not getting video, and how to fix it? Or, alternatively, does anybody know of a different DVD player that's easy to install? (I did look at one or two others, but I couldn't get them to install easily.)
