moving

I am moving from a FreeVSD setup to a dedicated hosting environment. Thus, due to the FreeVSDvirtual domain system I have only a partition that looks like a complete server on a master hard-drive - it is difficult to move in this state. I plan to take out my account on the new server while retaining my old one until the end of this month, so I can simply mirror the files from; oc12 line to oc12 line; hard disk to hard disk, old system to new system. However, I wonder about certain things; passwords, logins, groups, users. I want to retain these on the new machine. However, it would seem to me not wise to take /etc/group and /etc/passwd and simply modify the old one for the new machine. Any ideas on what I can do? Thank you in advance.
