IoMega Ditto 2Gb

So a co-worker of mine gave me an IoMega Ditto Tape drive (the 2Gb model). It connects to the parallel port and I'm trying to get it to work with Linux. The newer versions of Ftape supposedly support it, but the redhat 7.2 kernel (2.4.18) still harbors an older, crusy version of Ftap (3.04) which so far has given me no love with this Ditto drive. I downloaded the most "recent" version of ftape (4.04a from a couple of years ago) but it refuses to compile (gives tons of preprocessor token errors) Since the code was written for the 2.2 kernel I'm not entirely surprised by this. Anyone have any other ideas on ways to make this little beasty work?
