Geometry with Linux

Today I was taking notes for the first time in school with my laptop. As I was typing away in geometry the teacher then suddenly started making graphs. I couldnt figure out how to make OpenOffice do it so I do my old skool ascci art. I was wondering if anyone knew how a good tutorial on how to use OpenOffice for taking notes as well as drawing geometry stuff in the same file.
