Genkernel Question
I just reinstalled Gentoo on my newest box using genkernel to compile the kernel automatically (I've compiled my own before, I just thought I'd save time by not doing make menuconfig and manually selecting stuff and also for the autodetection feature it supposedly has). I've got 3 NICs in it (1 3Com and 2 Realtek-based ones), one of which is connected to a network (3Com card).
I made sure to emerge hotplug and I left the default genkernel settings alone.
Whenever I boot Gentoo however, I always get about 10 insmod errors in a row with one of the ethernet modules (I forget which one, but I think it was 8903c.o or something like that) before I get to the login prompt. And after that, NONE of the interfaces work. It compiled darn near every module ever made, so the module *should* be there.
I'm through with using genkernel and hotplug since they obviously don't work like they're supposed to. Is there a fairly painless way to delete what genkernel compiled (i.e. the initrd and kernel you have to point GRUB to manually in the grub.conf file) and recompile the kernel and only the modules I need without having to start from the beginning? I just don't want to have to spend another entire day waiting for everything to compile.
