i have a compaq laptop, a notebook 100, running windows 98. it's about 4 years old, abt 500mHz, 3 GB HD, 96 MB RAM (32 of which was installed). the CD rom drive doesn't work (a problem with the connector that the manufacturer can't seem to fix after 5 or 6 times of sending it in), but i do have internet access with it. my question is this...

what distro of linux would you suggest i run on it (or does it really matter)? i'd like to run red hat, but i don't know if that's possible because i don't have a CD drive.

a related question: is there a way to set up a drive on a computer to be accessible via FTP, so that i could FTP an installation disc? however, i would prefer to simply download a linux distro from online and save FTPing for another day. any advice will be a big help. thanks.
