Listens: radio opium from mp3.com

Realplay doesn't really play...

Hey.
So I downloaded the newest RealPlayer from real.com.
I was excited that they had finally updated it, and anyways, since a recent
fresh install of RH9 I have been unable to get the old one to play.
So, I installed it.
I can only get it to run from terminal as root.
I can't start it from the kmenu, and I can't run it from terminal as user.
Also, I have told Netscrape to open every conceivable realmedia file format using
/usr/bin/realplay , and even when I've already open it in terminal, Netscape gives me the
old "You need a plugin to access this media" or whatever msg, and then sends me to real.com to download the realplayer that I just installed.
Do I need to install it as user?
I don't think I can, because bash will only let me run rpm commands as root.

Here's a thought, too. Until about 20 minutes ago I had ont installed mpeg support for xmms (xmms-mpg123, had to so I could listen to these tunes right here...) Is it, perhaps, possible that realplayer needed that same support installed? Seems unlikely to me, since, as I understand it, mp3's and realmedia are distinct file formats, but what do I really know about this stuff? (little).

The real issue for is, I am tired of not being able to access certain online media, quite frankly, like weather reports and stuff.

I'm asking this here, because for about two months now I have not received a single msg from the Shrike listserv (yeah, I need to look into that, too).
If anyone can shed some light on this I would be forever grateful.
Thanks.

I'm also experience issues with Xine. Starts up, then logs me out of KDE and X altogether...weird...but I suppose that should be in a separate post...
