I've been wondering what MSFT would do to try to destroy Linux... I think this is probably a pretty big threat. Perhaps we can always write our own open source BIOSes, but I'm worried that the hardware will be developed to lock out anything that doesn't have some kind of digital signature, and that it'll be made illegal to hack/forge a digital signature, even for hardware that you yourself own, and that the legal channels for acquiring said signatures will become a significant barrier to entry for anyone who wants to do Free software.
What can be done about this?
