Story Involving Mandrake 9.1 + Samba

Here's an interesting situation I had about a week ago that figured out on my own.

I was installing Mandrake 9.1 on my sister's machine because she wanted to give it whirl and I figured it would be a nice intro to the OS. This is also the first time I started to play around with WIndows networking and Samba. Basically, I wanted to get her to be able to make use of the dsl and be able to access my new spiffy w2k mp3 server.

Well, this was my deliemma... I installed the OS, and the mounted the windows shared folders. no problem, it looks like I'm on easy street... all I have to do is get the dsl modem working. This is where the problems begin. I use DrakConnect to set up the dsl infomation, and I log into the net. Instantly, my shared folders become unavailble. I try to remount, nothing. I try the mandrake gui that finds your samba folders, nothing. Unsure if the problem was actually the dsl modem configuration, I reinstall the OS. Mount all the samba folders, everything works. Try DrakConnect again, everythings broken again. So I get the idea that somehow Mandrake's little 'configure your internet connection' toy was breaking something, but being not that well versed, I just went ahead and installed a 3rd time, this time using rp-pppoe. That worked, and so did I maintain my connection to the windows machine. But for some reason, I had to create my own resolv.conf, but that was just a minor hassle.

so in conclusion...
DrakConnect breaks Samba(?)
