USB JumpDrive

I have a USB JumpDrive to swap files from my linux laptop running redhat 9 to my schools computers running win 2k/xp. The problem is when ever I put my laptop to sleep, wake it up and then put the USB JumpDrive in my system freezes or I when I goto mount it I can not mount it. This only happens after I put it to sleep, but it is annoying having to reboot every time I put my laptop to sleep then goto use the USB JumpDrive. Anyone know how to fix this?
