I've gone through five distros, each not working. all I want is a simple web server with apache/php/mysql. I've spent my entire winter break trying to get it to work and it doesn't. I'm incredibly frusterated right now, realizing that I have 2 days in my winter break and I spent the entire time trying to get it to work.

I know alot about computers. I've been able to do many things with linux. But having to spend two weeks trying to get something so simple working is completely unacceptable.


edit: Also, setting up the wireless adapter the server needs to run on was an odyssey in itself, and was one of the reasons I had to format. It really wasn't pretty.

Maybe i'm being irrational, maybe I'm just plain stupid. But none of this has worked for me.

Once again, I'm sorry if I sound mean, I am just frusterated with having to spend so long on this. Please do not be insulted, I like the idea of linux and I am (was) a big fan of it. I'm just a bit angry right now. I'm going to head off to sleep and try again in the morning, but your help would be awesome if you have the time.

edit 2: Alright, i got the reinstall done, and now i'm back to mandrake 9.2. When I try and install the rpm for mysql on mandrake, I get this:

ERROR: 1062 Duplicate entry 'localhost-root' for key 1
ERROR: 1062 Duplicate entry 'localhost-root' for key 1

ive done some googling, but little luck. I looked around for a user configuration file for mysql, and I also looked through /etc/passwd, but found no duplicate entries. Any ideas?
