bind 9.2.2 problems in fedora core 1

i have installed fedora core 1, but not had time to run up2date to get the lastest rpms (would this solve my problem?)

i copied my old named/bind configs from my red hat 7.3 installation, and they didn't work with fedora's bind

i found a howtos for bind 9, and did exactly as it said

at the point where you start named i didn't get an answer in the dig output

some messing with rndc later, and all i could get was this:

Stopping named: rndc: connection to remote host closed
This may indicate that the remote server is using an older version of
the command protocol, this host is not authorized to connect,
or the key is invalid.

is it something obvious that is causing this to happen? or have i just broken named!
what can i do to sort this out?
