Kernel bug or my hardware?

I am currently using Kernel-2.6.5 on Slackware-9.1. Its currently running on a Pentium III/I686. However I have noticed something rather odd. Every time I have to reboot (which isn't very
often), I notice that I lose the keyboard...Literally. I get no response whatsoever. The only way I have found thus far to get the keyboard working again is, while the machine is booting,
unplug
the keyboard and switch it over to the opposite PS/2 port. I have rebooted many times to replicate the problem, and every time the port is reversed. So in other words, I have to keep switching
the keyboard over every time I reboot. I tried plugging in the spare mouse I have just to see if its the keyboard driver somehow bailing out because of it because it can't find a mouse (I
compiled in support for PS/2 mouse), however I get the same symptoms. In fact its worse because of the fact that I'd have to reverse the mouse/keyboard instead of just the keyboard. I have
filed bug 2655 on bugzilla.kernel.org on this very problem, however I'm wondering if anyone here has ever experienced this? Thanks!
