scripting question

I want a script that will notice me plugging in my camera, copy the pictures off and automatically upload them to my gallery.. I'm not sure where to even begin with this.. heh my inital problems would be how to plug into hotplug? or supermount? to detect that the camera was plugged in, then It'd just have to mount it and scp the files somewhere, but then i'm not sure how to tell a script to post them to gallery.. :/ I'm SURE this can be done.. just need some direction, any help?
