You'd think it would do better
When installing Fedora, you have your choice of updating an old system, or a fresh install. If you want to do a multiboot, using the same /boot, it is not happy. It wants you to reformat that partition.
If you don't, it does leave the old files (except for /boot/grub/grub.conf) intact. But, you'd think that it would read the old grub.conf and make a new one that just added the new installation and left the old one.
Unfortunately, for some reason, booting to Fedora Core-2 my machine just hangs. I couldn't even boot to redhat 9 until I booted with the rescue disc, and edited /boot/grub/grub.conf using my old values for rh9.
By the way, I really, really dislike disk labels, or at least the way redhat/fedora deals with them. All it ever seems to do is break things, and there is no simple way of telling what label goes with what partition. Fortunately, I keep written notes of what I use each partition for, so when things (invariably) break, I can go in by hand and fix them.
Now to see if I can figure out why fc-2 won't boot. I should have written down that cryptic errormessage about two things not playing together so it's turning one of them off. Maybe there will be a log I can look at booted up under rh9.
BTW, this post is mostly just a rant while I waited for things to reboot. I may be asking some real questions soon though.
