virginia tech g5 supercomputer...
after checking out some of the info on vtech's supercomputer, comprised of 1100 apple g5 dual processor computers, i came across some notes about how the cluster runs on apple's os x server operating system, which - don't get me wrong - i love os x, but i'm just wondering, because i've always gotten tons more performance out of my pc's (homebuilt and oem) with linux...
basically i'm looking for different people's input on whether or not virginia tech's supercomputer/apple cluster would run faster/yield higher performance if a custom linux kernel was used instead of apple's os x server...
just some food for thought. i would personally think they'd get a lot more out of it with linux, but only if they could get linux to "talk" to the hardware as efficiently, or more efficiently than apple's own os does...
