I am all out of ideas.
I have a Toshiba Tecra 8100. The sound has stopped working. Specifically I would like to be able to watch DVDs on it, and Ogle has worked well in the past. Indeed now it still plays the video, but not the sound.
I have googled.
I have recompiled ALSA
I have checked all the basics (Volumes, & mutes)
It doesn't play as root, or as a user, the file permissions look fine.
I have recomplied Ogle and installed it.
I verified both ALSA and OSS are activated in the Kernel
It does however emit a high-pitch whine when trying to play somthing. I mean the kind of ear piercing sound that gives you an instant headache.
It doesn't play noise even in the soundcard detection application.
It worked 2 days ago. I did nothing since then.
That is one of my biggest problems with Linux. "Automatic detection failed, sound won't work on this system." OK. No troubleshooting buttons, nothing. just "Well that didn't work? Hmm, i'm stumped sorry."
I'm Running Fedora Core 2, with Kernal 2.6.7-1.494.2.2. I get the same problem wiht Kernaql 2.6.5-1.358.
Any ideas anyone?
