Bellsouth Home Networking Woes

Hey folks, got one for ya.

My girlfriend and I just got Bellsouth DSL Lite. Yay, DSL for cheap. She had Bellsouth Home Networking before, so she had the expensive Home Networking-compatible modem and HomePNA. We talked about it and decided to renew her Home Networking setup. I (and my laptop) got the USB HomePNA. Works well enough; DSL Lite isn't bleeding fast, so it's not like theres a bandwidth restriction through USB 1.1.

Well, I've got XP and SuSE 9.1 on my laptop. The HomePNA works in Windows. Yay.

Linux is another matter.

2Wire, the HomePNA's manufacturer, proudly states that their USB hardware does not work with Linux. My question to you all is, is there a workaround, or a generic driver, or anything at all that can get this thing working, clean or dirty? If it's extremely difficult to get working, there's a LUG here that can help me. I'll be getting a fresh hard drive from Dell soon, and when it arrives, I would love to install SuSE 9.1 alone, but before that happens I need to get my internet situation nailed down.

Someone else asked to see the dmesg output after I reconnected the adapter:

usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 2
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using address 3
usb 2-1: Product: 2Wire PC Port
usb 2-1: Manufacturer: 2Wire Inc

It doesn't say anything to me, but maybe someone else can use it. Thanks for your time, folks.
