PWC Phillips webcam driver no more! :(
http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/
The developer or the pwc kernel driver for Phillips webcams, decided to discontinue support for the module.
His reason is the continual disagreement between him and the kernel maintainers on the binary-only part that PWC has, in order to use the webcam to its full potential.
See, the PCWX has some binary parts, that cannot be opensourced due to Phillips agreement with the developer.
What does this mean to you?
If you have a Quickcam 4000 pro or a Phillips camera, it won't likely work in future Kernel updates for the following reasons:
1) The developer is asking Kernel maintainers to remove pwc drivers from the kernel tree.
2) Even if they are kept, they are no longer maintained so they will eventually break beyond repair.
3) There is not indication right now, of anyone trying to take over pwc drivers.
