Stupid newbie questions
Hi everyone. I'm new to gentoo, and linux in general (having used windows for years. ick). I'm having a problem with sound (there is none at all) and my boyfriend (longtime user of gentoo) suggested

which did not work. He is out of ideas, so I thought someone here might have some.
Another thing that is odd is that periodically I will lose the "middle button". My computer is a Dell Latitude D600 and my boyfriend set it up (or it was the default) that the two buttons above the touchpad, when pressed together will copy/paste. Randomly, with no error message or anything it will just stop working. Any idea why this might be happening?
A third and final question (at least for now): I want to set up my Canon Powershot A70 digital camera and I have no idea where to start. Are there any websites that will walk you through the process? I tried googling and found some things, but I thought that while I was asking things here I might as well add this.
