WiFi Woes
Dear esteemed Linux users, I need your help!
I have configured my 802.11b PCMCIA card in Mandrake 9.2 to the point that I have it listed was wlan0 in ifconfig and iwconfig. I can run a iwlist scan and locate a number of Hot spots / Access points in my apartment complex. So I think I’m good when it comes to have the card configured correctly. I currently have a wireless routed connect to my cable modem and Mandrake 10.0 desktop.
What I want to do it connect to my router via the WiFi card in the laptop, along with other various networks in public locations (local coffee house and friends house) with minimal work on my end. I believe that all I need to do if configure a dhcpd.conf file to assign the IP’s and DNS for the laptop. I’ve searched the hell out of Google for the last few days and I’m not finding what a straightforward answer on this.
My questions to you are….
1) Am I wrong that dhcpd.conf is all that’s left to do?
2) If I do need to configure dhcpd.conf to access random access points, how does one configure dhcpd.conf to do this “on the fly”? Can anyone supply a generic dhcpd.conf file or point me to an example on how to do this?
3) Is there any GUI (KDE) front-ends that will allow you to, say double-click on a selected access point to connect to them?
Any help you can offer would be fantastic!
