not specifically linux, but linux machines are involved, and... well... there's a bunch of good brains in this community.
Here's a wireless/wired networking problem that I've been banging my head against.
I have wireless b/g running (dlink router).
I have a wireless bridge setup in the other end of the apartment (dlink 650+ or something) to provide wired network taps for the study and our laser printer. Said laser printer is a parallel printer running into a dlink network print server, which is plugged into a switch with the laptop and the dlink bridge.
So:
Room1: wireless router on cable modem, main machine connected via cat5 to router.
Room2: wireless bridge, connected to a switch with laptop and print server.
The problem? can't print to the printer from the main machine. can't ping IP addresses on the other side of the wireless bridge. Heck, can't even admin access the wireless bridge from the main machine. But everything on the wireless bridge side can hit the intarweb just fine. From the laptop in the switch I can print to the printer. from the main machine I can't find any of em.
I've set them up static IP with the router as the gateway, i've set them up DHCP with their mac addresses reserved to specific IPs, and nothing. It's all working fine except that the wired machine can't talk to the hardware on the other side of the wireless bridge.
riddle me that.
(would love suggestions for other places to post this. x-posted a bit.)
