I installed Mandrake 6.1 on an old IBM 380 ED. They were both on my attic for some reason. I thought I had lost them. Anyway, I didn't have a problem configuring anything.

I have my sound working, my display is great and I'm able to get online. Now I'm trying to install gAIM on my laptop, but I keep getting this error:

"only packages with major number <= 3 are supported by this version of RPM"

Can anyone tell me what I need to upgrade first before Ii can upgrade the next thing?

And I would like to start off with this 6.1 version and manually upgrade to a stage where I'm running Mandrake 8.2 or something similar. I can easily get a copy of an upgraded version, but the point is that I want to upgrade manually..

Update on 07/15/2002: I decided to go along with Debian. In case I need some help would anybody be willing to help me without being a little bitch about it?

I mean if you don't really want to, then don't even bother saying you will...

Thanks
