I sure feel dumb to ask this, but then again, this is a newbie community, so here we go.
How do I set the resolution of my new monitor to something better than 800x600? The monitor itself is capable of 1280x1024 at 85Hz, but I can't find a way to adjust it to anything but lower than what it currently is (Which is what my last monitor could do after, umh, getting tired of working better than that.).
The instruction manual of the monitor says I have to "execute the X86Config file" and there, enter the monitor's horizontal and vertical frequencies and some other information. My brother and my friends have told me the same over the phone, too, but... gah, how do I do that? I can't find the X86Config file to begin with! I could ask my brother to come over and fix it for me, but that wouldn't teach me anything, you know.
I'm running Debian Sarge, kernel 2.4, and I know the root password.
