Kubuntu install on my Acer Aspire 3680-2762

First here's the specs on the computer:

Intel Celeron M processor 520
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Atheros AR5BXB63 wireless (chipset AR5007 I think)
80 GB HD
came with Windows Visa Basic

Ok, so I've used SUSE in the past -- for years. But the version I had was 8.1 (so it's been a while). Also that was on a desktop. I actually received the Feisty Fawn Kubuntu CD last fall; but did not see the need to migrate over to Kubuntu then (and I'm glad I didn't...although that desktop eventually died). I brought this Acer in December. Got a Toshibia with Vista Premium on it in January. So I figured I would through Kubuntu on here.

Ok...so there was a lot to get used to. Kubuntu does not let you customize your installation as much as SUSE does; it's a much leaner, and basic installation. Nevertheless, the quick installation (less than 15 minutes) yielded a "crippled" machine. There were issues with the sound, the display, the wireless, and the touchpad.

That was yesterday afternoon. Today (a little less than 24 hours later), I have all of these issues resolved pretty much. The touchpad ad the sound were pretty easy fixes. The wireless fix was pretty challenging (and stressful - what's a laptop without wireless capabilities?). And the display was corrected as soon as I was able to get online and update my packages. For details, you can see my personal journal where I had to make a separate entry for each issue.

Nonetheless, I'm glad to be in Linux Land again. I still have yet to test out my DVD or DVD burner...but if there are issues, I'll be sure to also post in my personal journal.
