PSC2110 Issues
Well, I figure I might as well kick this out, this being a new group and all... and since Google has not produced an answer.
I've just purchased an HP PSC2110. That's a printer/scanner/copier. I've got it hooked up to the USB, and it works fine, but it can only do one task at a time. That is to say, I can use it either as a scanner or a printer, but not both. All documentation (on say, linuxprinting.org) says it should work fine.
To get it to print, I restart cups. To get it to scan, I unload the printer module and restart ptal-init. And yes, I can modprobe printer and it still doesn't print (but it does scan) until I restart cups. At which point the scanner stops working again. Oddly, I can rmmod printer; modprobe printer; ptal-init start and have the scanner working fine. So it's not the printer module locking it - it's just necessary to unload it to get ptal-init to see the scanner.
usbview sees all interfaces all the time, scanimage --list-devices sees the scanner when it's working, and can't when it's not working (no scanner attached as far as it can see). cups just keeps printing the same thing in a loop when it's not working, increasing the page count repeatedly. Here's an excerpt of the endlessly repeating section from /var/log/cups/error-log:

The usb://Unknown?serial=MY38CF63380F works - that's what it's set to when it's printing sucessfully, and as I say, usbview (and /var/log/messages) confirms the printer is still there in the same place. And yes, I need to figure out how to set the LogLevel.
