I've been using Mplayer for about seven months. I've been able to watch DVDs most of that time. Mostly I'm completely impressed with it.

But yesterday I tried to watch a DVD and I got the

I've been pouring over the Mplayer docs, and have tried nearly everything. This morning I installed the latest beta version and

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
- Try -ao sdl or use ALSA 0.5 or the OSS emulation of ALSA 0.9.
- Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
- Slow video output
- Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!

I get sound for about a minute before it ultimately cuts out. I usually don't ever get the your CPU is too slow to play this when playing DVDs on that machine.

The DVD plays perfectly well in my DVD player.

Any thoughts (note: by posting this question, I'm pretty sure I've satisfied all the requirements they suggest you do before you ask a question)?

Some other background:

1) the machine is a dual 1ghz PIII running nearly plain vanilla Suse 8.2
2) I get the same problem on a dual 800mhz PIII runing the same OS, and a 2.4Ghz PIV runing the same OS
3) the two PIIIs are using the cheapest soundcard SoundBlaster makes, the PIV is using the onboard sound that came on the ASUS board.
