Samba insanity.
Alrighty... Now, I have a server setup running Slackware and Samba 3.0.7. I have a client which is dual booting Windows XP Home, and Gentoo.
I have set it up so that users will be able to view everything on hdd1 (my storage drive), and write to /incoming on hdd1 (setup as /mnt/storage/incoming)
Now, I'm in Windows, I'm able to do everything as it's supposed to. As I switch back to Gentoo, I am unable to write, to any folder unless I am root (this isn't good)
Now, someone has told me to chown /mnt/storage like "chown -R sniz /mnt/storage" on the server box. Did so... although, when I smbmount that on the Gentoo box, it still shows the persmissions "root root", therefore, still unable to write as a regular user. So, I'm still where I was...
Then, he told me to change the smb.conf to have "user = sniz", and to my prevail, it did nothing.
Now, I'm trying to do this without having to mess around with groups, so that whoever connects to my network, will still have access to most of my files (whether they have windows or linux)
I have mounted and umounted and restarted samba more times that necessary, which is why I'm here now. The "people" in #samba on freenode weren't much help either. Suggestions?
