Speedtouch 330 (Silver) USB ADSL on FC3
This is crossposted from
fedora_linux, but I decided to post here in case this issue wasn't distro-specific.
I have a silver Thompsom Speedtouch 330 (silver) USB modem which I am currently trying to install. I managed to configure it and set it up correctly on Mandrake 9.2 and 10.1. but when it comes to installing on Fedora core 3, I seem to be running into a number of problems, mainly the fact that Fedora Core 3 seems to rely on Ethernet for a high-speed connection.
I've decided to run Speedtouchconf to install the package, and while it all runs well and the firmware is installed, there are one or two problems.
The following files cannot be found by the SpeedtouchConf script (v. 25b-02-2005):
* /etc/init.d/speedtouch
* /etc/rc.d/init.d/speedtouch
* /etc/resolv.comf
* /etc/ppp/resolv.conf
The lack of /etc/init.d/speedtouch or /etc/rc.d/init.d/speedtouch service means that the ADSL connection cannot be started at bootup.
One other problem comes with the testing of the connection. I can connect to the ISP alright, but when the script pings www.google.com, it instantly fails, saying "The Network is unreachable".
Here's the console output. Key error lines are hghlighted in red:

Using speedtouch-1.3-sgp
The kernel speedtch module is loaded. This is not
compatible with the speedtouch usermode driver.
Removing the speedtch module
microcode is rev4fw.zip
PPP version 2.4.2 okay.

You need to check the DNS configuration.
Look in /var/log/messages to see if DNS was configured.

speedtouchconf.sh script again.
Congratulations.
