Samba cross platform
I don't know if anyone here has been following my exploits with installing a small server in the studio of my design company in Milan over on
linux, but anyway, i have installed the server got it running and i'm trying to configure samba. I come from a design background, so i'm quite proud of myself for getting this far with the setup which includes raid5 setup and the samba, anyway...
I'm nearly there but i have 3 annoying problems.
1. A user would login on a mac or pc, create a folder and some files.
Another user would then come along and try to add files to that folder, or update one of the files. But obviously something was wrong with the permissions. No user could manipulate files created by another (although they could rename folders, which i found odd) Anyway, i resolved it by forcing everyone to the same user. One of the users that uses the samba system.
Does anyone see any problems with that?
Because i noticed there was something called create mask, which i assumed would set the permissions on every file created. Would this be a better method and what would the mask be?
2. The macs still only see 3 of the shares in the samba client, although they can log into all of them via the URL.
3. I have 2 or 3 pc's using the same login and there doesn't seem to be a problem. But with the macs, they can't login if someone else is using that username, so i have ended up creating usernames and passwords for all the mac users. The only problem is, a couple of people, myself included, use both, so it would be handy to have the same username for both platforms. Any ideas?
