The Clock Box provides all characters with simple smartphone devices to use to contact each other. They appear on a character's person or nearby, a screen about the size of an iPhone but in their favourite color. When the screen is touched, they start with a basic tutorial on their usage. They then require characters to select a user name to identify themselves with.

The devices are fully accessible and come with voice-to-text or text-to-speech as well as volume control and muting.

Like any smartphone, the devices have device-to-device call and text functionality, with an additional video-call option and the ability to take and send pictures. Players can use the following code (written by [personal profile] awarewolf) to add an inbox to their journal:

The device also has the ability to run "apps", but it only has two native. The first is a basic coding school that encourages the technologically savvy to create more apps on the device, to be shared with others. So far the apps created are:

- "Partridge", an app left over from New Year Eve that can be used to tell the days since then (providing a rudimentary calendar)
- Voice to text and text to voice capabilities.
- Tik Talk, a snapchat app.
- Time Flies, a Flappy Bird style mobile game.
- HELLO, a newbie guide.
- Watchface, a video-sharing app.

There is only other app, called "Lock Box". It is a social network similar to Facebook, Twitter or Plurk, with a text box that prompts the user to Share your thoughts? Short status updates posted to the app can then be commented on by others.

This means that [community profile] lockbox is a text only community and brevity is encouraged. There are no privacy features (that's what texting is for) and no block functions, but an anonymous function where the username is hidden is available, as is a full range of emoji and the ability to link to other messages on the app. Treat it like an IC Plurk rather than your typical DWRP network comm and you can't go wrong.

Hey, so, where the hell is Lockwood?

Anyone seen him?

[Sam's figured out the rhythm of this place by now. And what it means when someone just disappears. At least, she thinks so. But there's still a nagging sense of doubt.]

Please tell me someone knows where Laurel is? I've been staying with her on and off and when I went to sleep last night, she still wasn't back. I woke up this morning and I've spent half the day looking in every room I could find, some I never even knew existed, and she wasn't to be found.

[Cue someone who's very nervous that her friend, once alive, has gone back to a place where she's actually dead. The last thing she wants is for the one uniquely good thing about this place to be a cruel joke. She didn't even get to say goodbye. Again.]

I mean, I know sometimes people go home and stay there, but what if...

Never mind. Just tell me if you find her.

[ What's this!? It's not a typed post, or a tik! Instead, it's the Clock's very first video post, that shows up as a still image of Cisco's excited face with a large white play button at the center. Clicking anywhere on it will start the following video message: ]

Hey, everybody. Cisco here. [ He waves a little awkwardly at the camera. ] Just wanted to announce that I finally got off my lazy butt and coded a video app for these things. If you look you, should see a new button next to the one you use to take pictures. It's got a watch face and it's labeled 'Watchface', 'cause we all know this hood's got a bit of a timekeeping theme goin' on, and also, it's an app that means you can literally watch my face. [ Cisco moves his hand in front of his face with a flourish. ]

Should be pretty easy to figure out: you can record, and play back, and there's options to embed videos on the network or send private ones to your friends, the same as with pics. Also! Anybody wants to place bets on who is the first one to accidentally post a private video, and how long it's gonna take, see me. I added a few fun filters, too, so check those out if you want. You can leave text comments below - [ He points down towards the bottom of the screen. ] - or respond with a video of your own.

[ A cemetery. A cemetery was very fitting. The last he knew, STAR labs didn't connect to a cemetery. These suspicions were easily confirmed by giving a scroll from the communication device and tabbing through the introduction sections. Well. This was definitely a wrench in the cogs.

Still, the cemetery is serene, almost peaceful. At least for now. It's a good place to get a grip on the situation. Might as well post something: cryptic as hell and definitely not a quote. Not at all. ]

well, this is officially the worst birthday present. 🎂😑

[Just in case anyone thinks he's referring to the Clock, he has also included one Tik of a ridiculous birthday cake, with his apartment kitchen in the background.]

Sorry if I worried anyone for being gone so long.
Also: I officially have too much cake.
Can someone please come and take this off my hands??

HELP

Does anyone know how to take care of tropical fish? My friend's room [not hers, she's only acting CO, she doesn't even use Shepard's room back home] showed up here and I'm pretty sure if I let her fish die, she'll kill me. But she doesn't have an aquarium VI and I've only ever had a space hamster.

Which is great, because this guy showed up in here too.

If anyone wants to come look after/at the fish, hamster, or husk head, the door looks like this:

[The green display pictured will, however, remain stubbornly red, the door refusing to open. Feel free to point this out to her!]

Hi guys.

So if any of you happen to see Caroline Forbes or Tyler Lockwood, could you please tell them to get their collective butts down to the bar so that I can lovingly yell at them for freaking me out? I'd really appreciate it.

[She does mean the lovingly part, but yes, she will be yelling.]

I'm probably overreacting but when two cell phone addicted millenials don't respond to ANY of the texts you send them for a day and a half you get a little worried.

So if you could please help me out, their mom friend thanks you.

It's been a while. Maybe you've all forgotten me already, but for those who haven't, I've roasted some chestnuts. Also for the forgetful ones and the new additions. Just come on over.

[The post includes a picture of the chestnuts he has prepared in his room. The room itself is only featured a little in the background, but even so it's obvious that he has put quite a lot of creativity into designing it. Either that or one might just call it cluttered.

There is another picture a bit further down in the post, showing a word-cloud that took a while to put together on a black wall.]

I have a new riddle this time:

I'm worthless to one but priceless to two. What am I?

I am love.

But that's not the riddle. It goes deeper. One of the few riddles where I'm not certain of the answer yet. Whenever I think I know, I get thrown for a loop.

So.

What is love?

Or, should I ask, what is it to you?

[The one thing that had helped Claudia adjust to being stuck in the Clock as quickly as she had was someone from home showing up as quickly as they had. The familiarity helped a lot, and because of the point in the timeline she'd come from, Helena was more a calming force for Claudia in all of her whirlwind of emotions.

But for two days she hasn't been able to find any sign of her.

Now, Claudia's not one to panic uselessly, but it's not the most settling thing for her. So, she decides to ask the residents at large before she properly freaks out.]

So, how exactly do you know for sure if someone's been sent home? I mean-- people get lost in the Clock all the time, right? So...what's the key way to tell the difference?

[ it's a bird, it's a plane, it's a late-night lockbox entry from your favorite alien. this time, it's flavored with a little introspection. kara's pretty grateful that this is text-only. nobody can see your sad expression (or the three cartons of ice cream you've demolished so far) on the network. ]

Are there people you miss from home? People you wish you could talk to, or hug, or just tell them you care about them one more time?

If you're missing somebody, I just wanted you to know you're not alone.

okay so a completely adorable totally hilarious guy wakes up in a weird hedge maze completely naked with only a sweater and a pair of novelty slippers folded up beside him, an egg full of silly putty stuck on top like a cherry on a crap sundae...

I wish this was a joke and I was about to drop a sick punchline, but unfortunately this is exactly the sad situation I'm in.

First of all, as far as I can tell, there's no one really responsible for the Warehouse, am I right? I don't want to be stepping on anyone's toes, but I've been visiting for a while, but I don't really see anyone taking charge of it. So there's that.

And then, if there's no one who's already got the job, I'd like to propose using the club for a New Year's Eve event. Providing there are no surprise migraines or mysterious parties compelling you to dance, I mean. Ii'm also looking for volunteers to help set up for the party and maybe anyone who might be able to make fireworks for midnight? Or maybe whatever's behind this place will give us fireworks.

So in short, party tomorrow night and then regular use of the club after that.

I read the intro app and tried a few things myself, but I still have some questions.

The app mentions a few times that locations people go to often are more easily and frequently accessible. How far does that go? If multiple people want a particular kind of location that hasn't appeared before, can it be created? Will it keep appearing if they go there regularly?

Finally, what is it that people do here all day?

[ As much as Cisco doesn't really like posting about his personal life on the network, it's easier to have a single PSA than to have this conversation over and over with people. ]

just a heads up, everybody: the clock decided to pull an interstellar on me, so even though it's only been a few days here apparently (and i doubt a whole lot of you even noticed i was gone) i've been back home for about eight months.

which means cumulatively, if you count the time i've been here and the time i've been in central city, 2016 has been about 22 months long and i don't know about you guys but it feels like 2,000.

any newbies or disappearances or hijinks while i was gone?
