Let’s get the apologies out of the way. First, this announcement is slightly on the late side, depriving some deserving historians of potential Christmas trade. Second, we didn’t get to review as many books as we would have liked to in 2025. Having said that, some excellent tomes crossed our desk. Two of these – the runners-up if you will – are Necessary Women: The Untold Story of Parliament’s Working Women by Dr Mari Takayanagi and Dr Elizabeth Hallam Smith: and The Great West Road: A Centenary History by James Marshall. We commend both of these fine pieces of work without reservation.
